The scope of the Green Belt Life Project is located in the surroundings of the Bay of Santander. It is a highly industrialized area, however, has naturalized areas of great ecological value, which will form the Green and Blue infrastructure of the Green Belt of Bay of Santander.
These areas cover the 37.67% of the Bay of Santander and its main uses are the conservation of nature and biodiversity, recreational use, education, outreach and research. A small fraction of these areas have agricultural and livestock uses, as well as hunting and fishing or extraction of materials. The other 62.33% are spaces with different uses: residential and urban; industrial; roads and communication infrastructures; agricultural; and mining resources (quarries). There are also fields that will allow the connectivity between the naturalized areas, creating ecological corridors.
